Communications Officer

Job Description


  • Create and distribute content to promote JOSA’s mission, brand, activities, and services/products.
  • Act as a liaison between JOSA and the public and our larger community to ensure that JOSA’s message is effectively delivered.
  • Interacts with stakeholders, partners and donors locally, regionally and internationally.
  • Plan, coordinate, edit, and revise material for publication.
  • Write press releases and video scripts, develop blog content, newsletters, and create social media posts.
  • Track analytics and create reports detailing successes and failures of communications campaigns.
  • Work closely with JOSA’s policy team to ensure the success of our advocacy and campaigning efforts.
  • Other duties as assigned.



  • Passionate about JOSA’s mission and values.
  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, public relations or advertising, or alternatively, a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, or a similar field.
  • Extremely strong writing skills in both Arabic and English.
  • Proven success in managing communication campaigns or similar experiences.
  • Knowledge of KDEnlive, Inkscape and/or GIMP is an asset.
  • Able to think creatively.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a collaborative management style.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Knowledge of programming is not required, but highly appreciated.



The Communications Officer reports to the Executive Director.

The Jordan Open Source Association (JOSA) is a non-profit organization based in Amman, Jordan.

JOSA’s mission is to promote open source principles for the good of Jordanian society. We believe that information that is non-personal – whether it’s software code, hardware design blueprints, data, network protocols and architecture, content – should be free for everyone to view, use, share, and modify. Our belief also holds that information that is personal should be protected within legal and technological frameworks. Access to the modern Web should likewise remain open.
