JOSA Cryptoparty: Who's Listening? Privacy of Messaging Apps

Almost every device connected to the Internet will carry in its stack of applications at least one messenger. Whether it's WhatsApp, Telegram, Signal, WeChat, or messengers embedded within other applications such as Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, and more. In this Cryptoparty we aim to lay bare the privacy risks of popular messaging and communication applications and answer:

  • How can we best measure the privacy of messaging applications?
  • What are the most common attack vectors?
  • Which features matter most in terms of privacy?
  • Is there such a thing as fool-proof security and privacy?


In observance of Human Rights Day, we invite inquisitive types, privacy fanatics, journalists, and human rights defenders to learn more about the right to privacy and techniques to preserve privacy within digital spheres.
