We are starting our new cycle of JOSA TechTalks with two great sessions for hardcore developers and engineers, the speakers will not only focus on the fundamentals of Image Processing and Computer Vision, but will give practical examples of everyday use of these disciplines, from building document scanning apps to applying pattern recognition in your image applications.
Sessions:
➀ Image Processing Fundamentals
By: Najem Abu Rmaileh- Image Processing Developer and Research Assistant in Compilers
This talk presents the fundamental concepts and methodologies for digital image processing. We will introduce the OpenCV image processing library to build a document scanning application. We will also cover technical details behind basic image processing concepts and filters such as image denoising, image enhancement, and spatial filters.

➁ Computer Vision: Feature Extraction and Feature Selection
By: Salma Abdulrahman - Data Scientist at Souq
Building upon the basics of image processing, this talk tackles the problem of image understanding. We will explore ways of information extraction from images and analyze several applications related to content-based retrieval systems and image mining.
