JOSA is the Jordanian not-for-profit working for the promotion of open technologies and the defense of technology users in Jordan. We believe that strong technical and legal guarantees should be in place to protect technology users, in the fields of privacy and digital safety.

The Legal and Research Consultant will be responsible for developing a detailed literature and practice review mapping on Technology Facilitated Gender Based Violence (TFGBV) in Jordan. The mapping will include four main deliverables: 1- A Detailed Methodology, 2- Mapping Document, 3- List of Recommendations, and 4- A Workshop. The tasks and duties of the Legal Research Consultant include:

 

Tasks 

  1. Desk Research
    • Build a detailed methodology of the technology facilitated gender based violence mapping (literature and practice review).
    • Conduct a desk research on “literature and practice review” in Jordan. 
    • Conduct a comparison between TFGBV on a National level and Global/UN level.
    • Collaborate and provide guidance to team members, where applicable and if needed.
    • Develop a literature and practice review document that focuses on TF-GBV in Jordan and a list of recommendations. 
    • Prepare and create linkages between the TF-GBV Mapping and UPR on a national level.
       
  2. Workshop and Presentation
    • Collaborate with relevant team members in preparing workshop material.
    • Conduct a workshop presenting the TF-GBV Mapping to Lawyers, Journalists, CSOs, and other stakeholders. 
       
  3. Documentation and Reporting
    • Develop and maintain proper documentation, including templates, references and relevant documents.
    • Prepare an activity completion report, including general information, key findings, recommendations, references, and supporting documents.

 

Qualifications

  • A degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or similar, or alternatively, a degree in Law, Public Policy or similar.
  • Previous experience in intersection between technology and human rights or humnaities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications in both Arabic and English.
  • Preferred: Previous experience in providing training for organizations and entities in Jordan or the MENA Region.
  • Preferred: Previous experience in research/public analysis in the field of AI and/or fact-checking and journalism.
  • Previous involvement in open source communities or volunteer initiatives are highly appreciated.
